The DCG Framework: Angryturtle's Approach to Local SEO

DCG (Diagnosis · Cost Optimization · Growth) is Angryturtle's proprietary framework for managing local SEO. Learn what it means, why it works, and how it applies to your business.

The DCG Framework: How Angryturtle Approaches Local SEO

Most local SEO programmes fail not because the tactics are wrong, but because the sequence is wrong. Businesses invest in review generation before fixing a suspended GBP. They build citations before correcting NAP errors. They publish posts before choosing the right category. Execution without diagnosis is waste, however energetically it's carried out.

The DCG Framework — Diagnosis, Cost Optimization, Growth — is Angryturtle's structured methodology for local SEO. It defines not just what to do, but in what order, and why that order matters more than most agencies admit.

What DCG stands for

D — Diagnosis. Before any execution begins, understand the exact state of the business's local presence. Where are you ranking? Why? What's holding you back? What is the competition doing that you aren't?

Diagnosis at Angryturtle means a full GBP audit, a geo-grid baseline for primary keywords, a NAP consistency check across 50-plus Indian directories, a review velocity analysis against the top 3 competitors, and a Rank OS score across five dimensions. The output isn't a report — it's a prioritised gap map. Full detail on this stage lives at DCG Diagnosis.

C — Cost Optimization. Cost Optimization means two things at once. First, eliminating the inefficiencies and errors actively costing rank — wrong categories, NAP inconsistencies, suspended profiles, low review velocity. These are the "costs" a local presence is paying every day they go uncorrected. Second, optimising the investment-to-impact ratio of local SEO effort, so every hour goes into the highest-leverage action rather than the most obvious one.

This isn't budget reduction. It's execution efficiency. Fixing a wrong GBP category costs nothing and can unlock a whole category of searches a business has been invisible for. Correcting three NAP errors on JustDial costs an hour and removes a citation drag that's been present for years. See Cost Optimization in full.

G — Growth. Once the foundation is stable and errors are corrected, Growth is the sustained, compounding investment layer: review velocity growth month on month, citation expansion to new directories, GBP content and post cadence, local content strategy, AI Overview readiness. Growth is what turns a 40% Share of Local Voice into 65% over 12 months. See the Growth stage breakdown.

Why sequence matters more than effort

The instinct of most businesses entering local SEO is to jump straight to Growth: "we need more reviews, we need more posts, we need more citations." That instinct is understandable and almost always counterproductive.

More reviews on a GBP with the wrong category don't improve rank for the searches that matter, because the category excludes the business from those results entirely. More citations built on top of inconsistent NAP dilute authority rather than build it — each new citation just adds another inconsistent data point for Google to reconcile. More posts on a suspended profile go nowhere, because a suspended profile isn't showing to anyone.

DCG enforces the right sequence by making Diagnosis non-negotiable as the first step. A business can't know what to grow until it knows what's broken, and it can't fix what's broken without first finding it systematically rather than by instinct.

DCG in practice: the monthly operating rhythm

DCG isn't a one-time process. It's the monthly operating rhythm the Angryturtle platform runs, for self-serve teams and managed clients alike.

Month 1 is Diagnosis-dominant: a full audit, a Rank OS baseline, and a priority gap map. Months 2 and 3 are Cost Optimization-dominant: GBP category corrected, NAP errors remediated across priority directories, review generation launched, any suspensions resolved. The backlog of errors gets cleared before growth investment is made. From Month 4 onward, Growth becomes dominant: review velocity builds month on month, the citation network expands, GBP posts and Q&A stay maintained, and geo-grid SoLV grows steadily.

Each month, Rank OS identifies which dimension is the current constraint, and the month's execution priority shifts accordingly. If Review Velocity has become the lowest-scoring dimension, the month's primary effort goes there. If NAP Consistency has degraded because a new directory error appeared, Cost Optimization takes priority again, even in Month 8 of an engagement.

DCG isn't a straight line from A to B. It's a diagnostic loop that keeps execution calibrated to the actual constraint, month after month, rather than to a fixed roadmap written on day one.

DCG across the 8 industries Angryturtle serves

The framework applies across all eight industries, but the specific diagnosis findings, cost optimization priorities, and growth levers differ by vertical.

In healthcare, Diagnosis often reveals category errors, Practo NAP mismatches, and compliance-violating content; Cost Optimization fixes these, and Growth focuses on review velocity and AI Overview readiness. In real estate, Diagnosis frequently finds duplicate project-site GBPs, RERA numbers in the wrong field, and outdated 99acres citations; Growth then focuses on micro-market review generation. In franchises, Diagnosis reveals name-format inconsistencies across units, franchisee-created duplicates, and uneven review velocity; Cost Optimization standardises the network, and Growth scales it consistently. In BFSI, Diagnosis often finds ATM profiles missing, incorrect holiday hours, and compliance-violating content, with Growth building branch-level review velocity inside regulatory guardrails.

DCG and AI Overview readiness

As AI search becomes a primary discovery surface for Indian consumers, DCG has expanded to treat AI Overview readiness as a standard Growth dimension rather than an afterthought.

Diagnosis now includes entity consistency across AI-relevant directories, schema markup completeness, review count and recency relative to whoever AI systems are actually citing in the same category and city, and GBP completeness scores. There's no published review-count threshold that unlocks AI citation — the diagnosis works by benchmarking against the real local field, not a fixed number. Cost Optimization includes fixing entity inconsistencies that reduce AI citation confidence, implementing LocalBusiness schema where absent, and correcting review velocity gaps. Growth includes building review count and recency toward parity with the businesses currently winning AI citations locally, expanding structured content such as FAQs and service pages with direct answer capsules, and tracking Share of AI Voice across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini.

Why DCG works

The DCG Framework rests on a pattern that shows up again and again in local search: the businesses that see the fastest and most durable local search improvement are those that fix errors before adding volume.

A business that generates 20 reviews a month on a GBP with the wrong category will plateau. A business that first corrects its category, then generates 15 reviews a month, will outrank the first business within 60 days, even starting from a lower review count. The framework works because it aligns execution with the actual constraint rather than with the instinct to simply "do more."

FAQ

Is DCG a certification or methodology name specific to Angryturtle? DCG (Diagnosis, Cost Optimization, Growth) is Angryturtle's own framework for sequencing local SEO work — it isn't a third-party certification.

Can a business run DCG on a self-serve basis, or does it require a managed team? Both. The framework and the Rank OS scoring behind it are built into the Angryturtle platform for self-serve use, and the same framework structures the managed service for teams who want it executed for them.

How long before Growth stage results show up? Most engagements spend Month 1 in Diagnosis and Months 2 to 3 in Cost Optimization, with Growth compounding from Month 4 onward — though the timeline shifts if Diagnosis finds an active suspension or severe NAP inconsistency that needs more remediation time.

Does DCG apply differently to enterprise, multi-location accounts? The three stages stay the same, but Diagnosis and Cost Optimization add a network-level rollup alongside individual-location scoring. See enterprise local SEO.
